SCENE 01 / GREEN SCREEN

Green Screen Services

Professional chroma key filming for VFX and compositing across Hungary.

Scroll

Green screen filming uses chroma key backdrops to isolate subjects for compositing against virtual backgrounds, environments, or visual effects in post-production. This technique is fundamental to modern filmmaking, and Budapest—with Korda Studios hosting Dune, Blade Runner 2049, and The Witcher plus a 30% tax rebate—has become one of Europe's top production hubs for VFX-heavy shoots.

We coordinate green screen setups at Origo Studios in Budapest (8 stages), Korda Studios in Etyek (6 stages up to 3,700m², Europe's largest purpose-built studio), Stern Studios, and MAFILM Studios. Our team sources cyclorama stages, portable backdrops, and the specialized lighting required for clean chroma key extraction, with direct handoff to Digic Pictures (game cinematics and film VFX), UPP Budapest, Skywalker Sound (Hungary), and Post Republic for world-class compositing and finishing.

Korda Etyek and Origo Budapest chroma stages with Digic Pictures, Filmtörténet VFX and Pannonia Post compositing pipelines

Greenscreen is the workhorse of Hungarian VFX production. The studio stack we book is the same one Dune Part Two, The Witcher Netflix Season 3, Black Widow, Hellboy 2019, Hercules, Inferno, The Martian and 47 Ronin have leaned on. Korda Studios Etyek offers six chroma-capable stages including Stage 6 at 6,000m². The largest in Europe — with cyclorama walls, drive-in access and the ceiling height for crane and Technocrane sweeps.

Here is how this works in practice. Origo Studios Budapest runs eight stages with dedicated cyc-green configurations. Stern Studios, Pannonia Film Studio and Cinegrid Studios cover commercial and mid-scale narrative work. Our gaffers light to the spill-control discipline global VFX supervisors expect. Kino Flo Image 87 tubes or LiteGear AuroraSheets on the cyc for an even key, hard tungsten or SkyPanel rim on talent. Plus tracking markers placed against printed reference charts so the Nuke and Fusion teams have the parallax data they need for clean roto and matchmove.

Here is the short of it. Post hands directly to Filmtörténet VFX, Pannonia Post, Umatik, Digic Pictures (whose Witcher 3, Cyberpunk 2077, Halo: Reach, Assassin's Creed and Final Fantasy cinematics define Hungarian compositing craft), Magma Studios and Magyar Filmlaboratórium VFX, with Nuke, Fusion and After Effects pipelines feeding ProRes 4444 XQ masters. Bilingual EN/HU and EN/DE key matte review notes accompany each plate so co-production teams in Berlin, Vienna or London can sign off without translation lag.

Here is the breakdown. NAV ATA carnet handles imported VFX gear when supervisors bring their own lensing, and the NFI 30% cash rebate. One of Europe's highest with no cap — applies to greenscreen days as part of qualified Hungarian spend. We set up VFX supervisor visits, witness camera coverage for clean plates, HDRI sphere captures, chrome and grey ball references. Plus the LIDAR scans Filmtörténet and Pannonia Post need for 3D set extension.

FAQ

Chroma Key Expertise

Do you provide green screen studios?

Yes, we partner with Korda Studios (6 stages up to 3,700m², Europe's largest purpose-built studio in Etyek), Origo Studios (8 stages in Budapest), Stern Studios, and MAFILM Studios—from interview setups to massive cyclorama stages used by Dune, The Witcher, and Blade Runner 2049.

Can you set up green screens on location?

Yes, we provide portable green screen solutions including pop-up backgrounds, fabric screens, and mobile lighting packages. We can create chroma key setups in almost any Hungarian location with proper space and power.

What about blue screen vs green screen?

We work with both green and blue screens depending on your requirements. Blue screen is often preferred for blonde hair or scenes with green elements. We advise based on your specific compositing needs and VFX pipeline.

How do you ensure clean keys?

Clean keys require even lighting on the background, proper separation from talent, spill control, and attention to edge quality. Our Hungarian teams bring extensive international production experience to every chroma key setup.

Do you coordinate with VFX supervisors?

Yes, we work closely with your VFX team—in-house or at Hungarian facilities like Digic Pictures, UPP Budapest, Skywalker Sound Hungary, or Post Republic—to capture tracking markers, reference photography, HDRIs, and clean plates.

What resolution and formats do you support?

We shoot green screen in formats up to 8K depending on camera selection. We ensure footage meets the resolution and codec requirements of your post-production pipeline with 4K/HDR workflows standard in Budapest.

Productions in Hungary that need this often pair it with Virtual Reality Filming, Virtual Production, and AR Production for full coverage. Most projects also draw on Sound Recordist Teams and Sound & Audio.
