Digital Cinema Package (DCP)

Here is how this works in practice. DCP mastering for Hungarian theatrical and festival distribution is produced at Mafilm, Pannonia Post. Plus Origo Post through DCP-O-Matic and EasyDCP pipelines validated against the tech needs of the country's major exhibitors. Cinema City Hungary (the dominant multiplex chain with screens at Aréna, Allee, MOM Park, and across the regional centres of Debrecen, Szeged, Pécs, Miskolc, and Győr), Cinemarc. Plus the heritage independents anchored by Toldi Mozi in central Budapest and the art-house circuit it represents.

Here is the short of it. We build SMPTE-compliant packages at 2K and 4K DCI resolution with Interop variants where legacy projectors still need them, audio masters in Dolby SR-D 5.1 and 7.1 with Dolby Atmos and Auro 11.1 immersive tracks produced for prestige releases and the Cinema City IMAX-with-laser screen at Aréna Plaza. Plus subtitle deliveries in Hungarian, bilingual EN/HU, and EN/DE for cross-border ORF Austria and DACH-market releases, authored in CineCanvas XML and BCC / DCSubtitle as each carrier specifies.

Here is the breakdown. For festival submissions, the Hungarian and European circuit drives a parallel DCP workflow. TIFF (Cluj-Napoca, June — the largest film festival in Central Eastern Europe with strong Hungarian programming), Hungarian Film Week / Magyar Filmhét (Budapest, March — the national showcase), KAFF Kecskemét (Kecskemét, June — the animation festival anchored by Pannonia Film Studio heritage). Plus the global anchors Berlinale (Berlin, February) and Cannes (May), each of which publishes a DCP tech-check specs that we produce unencrypted packages against, with picture handles and trailer reels structured to that pattern.

Here is what that looks like on the ground. For the encrypted commercial release that mostly follows festival premiere we create per-screen KDMs scoped to each Cinema City, Cinemarc. Plus Toldi Mozi projector certificate and exhibition window. Each package is validated on a reference cinema server at the mastering site before delivery. Confirming load behaviour, audio routing, subtitle timing, and CPL integrity — so theatre managers across the Hungarian circuit receive their keys without back-and-forth on certificate exchange.
