Our NeedAFixer network connects you with experienced gaffers and grips across Hungary who work seamlessly with your cinematography team. Our professionals are skilled in studio and location lighting, rigging for challenging environments, and managing the electrical and mechanical systems that modern productions demand—with strong connections to Hungarian equipment suppliers and rental facilities.

On Location

Hungarian gaffers and key grips from the Witcher Netflix S3, Black Widow, Hellboy 2019, Atomic Blonde, Inferno, The Martian and Munich production lineage

Here is how this works in practice. Hungary's gaffer and key-grip bench was built across two decades of Hollywood tentpole work. Our roster sits inside that lineage. The Witcher Netflix Season 3, Black Widow, Hellboy 2019, Atomic Blonde, Inferno, The Martian and Munich (Spielberg) productions all carried Hungarian lighting departments through Korda Studios Etyek and Origo Film Studios Budapest. Plus the senior gaffers and key grips that crewed those slates remain the spine of the pool we book from today.

Here is the short of it. Korda Etyek and Origo Budapest both operate in-house gaffer and grip teams that have rigged the largest stages in Europe. Korda Stage 6 at 6,000 square metres — so our top-tier electric crews arrive pre-trained on the lighting-rig and rigging-grid infrastructure of both studios. Membership skews to the Hungarian Society of Cinematographers (HSC) and the Magyar Filmoperatőrök Szakszervezete lighting-department roster. Plus SZFE Budapest (the national film school operating since 1865) and MOME training upstream. ONYF and Magyar Államkincstár workplace-insurance compliance documented before crew call. Bilingual EN/HU and EN/DE communication with DPs is standard.

Here is the breakdown. In practice our gaffers and key grips run Hungarian winter -10°C December-through-February shoots with cold-weather generator block-heaters, fuel-line lagging and battery-warmer protocols built in from prep. Plus they handle Buda Castle UNESCO World Heritage silent-zone lighting and rigging protocols where amplified noise from genset and motorised rigging is restricted. On hardware the senior crews work fluently across ARRI SkyPanel S60, S120 and S360 LED, Aputure 600d Pro and 1200d Pro daylight HMI-replacement units, Astera Titan Tube and Helios Tube wireless LED, and Litepanels Gemini soft-light panels for the LED side.

Here is what that looks like on the ground. Plus ARRI M-Series M18, M40 and M90 plus K5600 Joker 800, 1600 and 2500 HMI stock for daylight punch and Mole-Richardson 5K and 10K tungsten the Korda Etyek and Origo Budapest stages still keep in their permanent inventory. DMX-512 and Lumenradio CRMX wireless control are standard. Our key grips set up cross-departmentally with Pannonia Cine Service, Vantage Film Hungary and Camera Rentals Budapest for dolly, crane and rigging-truck packages. We match gaffer and key-grip pairings to brief on confirmed feature, episodic and commercial credits.

FAQ

Our Lighting Network

What does a gaffer do on set?

The gaffer is the head of the electrical/lighting department, responsible for executing the DP's lighting vision. They design lighting setups, manage the electric crew, coordinate equipment, and ensure safe power distribution throughout the production.

What crew positions are in a lighting department?

A full lighting department includes: Gaffer (department head), Best Boy Electric (gaffer's assistant, manages crew and equipment), Electricians/Sparks (set up and operate lights), and on larger productions, Rigging Gaffers and Generator Operators.

Do your lighting crews bring their own equipment?

Crew and equipment are typically separate. We can coordinate equipment packages from Hungarian rental houses to complement your crew booking. Some gaffers have personal equipment for smaller productions.

How many electricians do I need for my production?

Crew size depends on production scale: small shoots may need just a gaffer, medium productions typically need gaffer plus best boy and 1-2 electricians, while larger productions require full departments with rigging crews.

Can your lighting crews work with international DPs?

Yes. Our gaffers are experienced working with international cinematographers and understand international terminology, techniques, and workflow expectations.

Do you provide generators and power distribution?

We coordinate generator hire and distribution equipment through our Hungarian rental partners. Generator operators can be included in crew packages for productions requiring significant power infrastructure.
